Our Mission

The Islamic Educational Center Of Lafayette (IECOL) is organized for religious educational purposes as defined in IRC Section 501(c)(3) (not-for-profit-organizations). Specifically, the center provides for the religious educational needs to any person associated or interested in Islam, with particular emphasis on the school of Ahlulbayt (as), or Shia Islam.

Background: Rooted in the early history of Islam, the school of Ahlulbayt upholds the case for the progeny of Prophet Mohammad (Ahlulbayt), and considers them as central to the faith, stresses the allegiance to Imam Ali and the 12 succeeding infallible Imams. Today, this is a minority sect among the larger umbrella within Islam.

IECOL promotes and teaches this theology as well as the principles and history of Islam to interested individuals. The Imam provides religious guidance and counseling to couples, including pre-marital, marital counseling, and family counseling; officiating at marriage ceremonies, overseeing divorce proceedings, burials, and advising on religious activities.

IECOL produces and promotes lecture events for local audiences. The speakers are selected from among the best in the nation, and brought in to benefit the general public. IECOL caters to students as well as spiritual learners.

The establishment of IECOL is made possible with the support of its members. It is members who decide upon the mission and vision of this center, and therefore may change it with the appropriate motions.
